Tanzania wasn’t my first travel choice—but it quickly became one of my favorites.

As a Filipino traveler, I wasn’t sure what to expect. But from the moment I landed in Dar es Salaam, I was greeted with warm smiles, vibrant streets, and a laid-back rhythm that reminded me a bit of home—but with an East African twist.

My trip took me from the wild plains of Serengeti, where I saw the Big Five up close, to the peaceful town of Arusha, where I met locals who asked me endless questions about the Philippines. One Maasai guide even asked if Jollibee was a real bird!

The real magic, though, was in Zanzibar. Imagine turquoise water, white sand, and a sunset that makes you forget Instagram exists. I wandered the spice farms, tasted dishes that mixed Swahili, Indian, and Arabic flavors, and got lost in Stone Town’s winding alleys.

What surprised me most was how safe and welcome I felt. Tanzanians were curious, kind, and eager to share their stories. Even if we didn’t speak the same language, laughter and food did the job.

If you’re Filipino and looking for somewhere new—Tanzania might just be your next great adventure.
